
Time for another adventure!
It’s June and Summer Adventure has begun! Alameda County Library invites people of all ages and abilities to join this fun and educational game.
First, what is a Creature Quest? From June 1 to August 1, observe and learn about the incredible creatures that live around us. From insects in your neighborhood to wildlife in your local park, this year’s Summer Adventure is all about animals! Creature Quest helps you learn about our local ecosystems and how to take care of the environment.
Join our programs, check out displays, and try fun activities all summer long. You can also read great books and learn more about the natural world. Adventurers of all ages will learn how to care for the critters we share our world with.
Do hands-on activities, track your reading, attend programs, and more! When you join, you will get a book gift, tote bag, available while supplies last, and entries for prize drawings.

Get Started
- Visit any AC Library location, Mobile Library Stop, or online, opens a new window.
- Pick up an activity tracker and activity sheet.
- Use the prompts on our activity sheets to spark your imagination. New activity sheets are released every two weeks.
Choose one of our activity prompts, get some reading inspiration, or create an activity all your own. You get to create your own Summer Adventure!
Share What You Read or Did
When you complete an activity, share what you did online or in person! Visit your local AC Library location or Mobile Library Stop to get a stamp in your activity tracker and a ticket to enter our prize drawings. These activities are easily adapted for all abilities. There’s no wrong answers—just use your imagination and have fun!
Collect and share your summer memories! Enjoy the Submission Showcase of entries at the library and online and let us know if we can share your entry to inspire others to join the fun!
Claim Books and Prizes

As you participate and share, the library will inspire you to keep going. Pick up a free book gift with your first entry. As you continue your quest, you’ll earn chances to grab some fantastic prizes. Enter online or come into any AC Library location or Mobile Library Stop to complete a prize ticket. Pick a category for a chance at winning:
- A pass for a family of four to visit Children’s Fairyland in Oakland
- LEGO’s
- animal puppets
- sensory toys
- craft kits
- California wildlife puzzles
- and much more!
Many of our prizes come from local businesses in Alameda County.
Winners will be selected four times throughout the summer. Prize drawings will be held every two weeks. Winners will be contacted by phone or email, so please write your contact information clearly on your prize tickets.

Many Ways to Adventure
Whatever your age or ability, AC Library has something to spark your imagination. Reading a great new book is one way to begin your quest. Find your next favorite with inspirational reading lists from our Matchmakers. There’s something for everyone, from crafters to mystery lovers to history buffs. Pick up a new read today!
Of course, the library is more than books. We have programs and all kinds of resources to jumpstart your Creature Quest. Check out our events listings and learn to knit, join a local bird walk, or hear to an expert talk about the helpful bugs living in your garden. Meet your neighbors and make new friends! And don’t forget our seed libraries! Let your imagination take flight and do fun activities with us all summer!

Books on Observing Wildlife - Summer Adventure 2026
A lot of the activities for Summer Adventure 2026: Creature Quest involve taking some time to step outside and pay attention to the animals that live among us. While we are observing and learning about these fascinating critters, it's important to remember the golden rule: Do No Harm. Let's learn some skills and techniques for how to get close enough to monitor animals without disturbing them.
