Latino Heritage Month: A Celebration of Cultura

Blog by the Spanish Language Programming Team

flowers and a stack of book with text, "Latino Heritage Month"

Latino Heritage Month is more than a date on the calendar; it's a monthlong celebration that spotlights the Latino history, culture, and achievements that shape our communities every day. Across the country, communities celebrate with parties,  parades, and other festive occasions.

Latino Heritage Month, observed from September 15 to October 15 coincides with the independence anniversaries of several Latin American countries, including Mexico, Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. First established in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week by President Lyndon B. Johnson, it was expanded into a month under President Ronald Reagan in 1988.
