Latino Heritage Month celebrates Latino people, history, and culture. It is also a time to honor the achievements by Latinos that helped shape our country.
In 1968, President Lyndon B. Johnson started Hispanic Heritage Week. In 1988, President Ronald Reagan expanded it into a month-long celebration. Today, Latino Heritage Month is celebrated every year from September 15 to October 15. These dates are significant because many Latin American countries celebrate their Independence Day. These countries are:
- Mexico
- Chile
- Costa Rica
- El Salvador
- Guatemala
- Honduras
- Nicaragua
Today, communities across the U.S. celebrate Latino Heritage Month with parties, parades, and other fun events.
