This year, Hanukkah (or Chanukah) begins at sundown on Thursday, December 25, 2024, and ends the evening of Thursday, January 2, 2025 (eight nights). Also called the Festival of Lights, Hanukkah is celebrated with a nightly lighting of the menorah and the exchange of gifts. Celebrants enjoy traditional Jewish foods like latkes (fried potato pancakes) and sufganiyot (jelly-filled doughnuts-yum!) for the holiday, and play games like spin the dreidel with gelt (money in yiddish- חנוכה געלט - and hebrew - דמי חנוכה).

For those who want to celebrate Hanukkah (or just learn more!), discover the rich traditions and stories of the holiday with this curated list of books.
