Alameda County Library’s Statement on Communications with Brave Publishing

Alameda County Library has been in correspondence with Brave Publishing since Monday, Dec. 5 to gather information about a reading for Mr. Cameron’s new book. On Tuesday, Dec. 6, before the Library had a chance to obtain more details, a Fox News reporter contacted the Library for comment about why we were not interested in hosting Mr. Cameron’s book reading. The Library was shocked as it had not denied Mr. Cameron’s book reading. While the email correspondence was happening, the publisher separately called one of our branch libraries and spoke with a staff member who was unaware of the ongoing correspondence with the publisher.

The Library holds programs representing a variety of cultures and religions, and has reached out to the publisher with details about how to reserve a meeting room for Mr. Cameron’s book reading. Our meeting rooms are available to governmental agencies and community organizations engaged in educational, cultural, intellectual, charitable, advocacy, religious, political, civic, and other non‐commercial activities.

Permission to use rooms does not imply Library endorsement of the goals, policies, or activities of any individual or organization. The Library acknowledges the diversity of values across our communities and respects parents’ and caregivers’ decisions about what books and events are appropriate for their families.
