Happy New Year!
The new year can be a time to reflect on goals and set new intentions for the months ahead. Perhaps one of your goals for the new year is to become more involved in your community. One way to do that is through volunteering! Volunteering can have many positive benefits, including the chance to socialize and make new friends, develop new skills, and cultivate a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

Alameda County Library’s Education and Literacy Services provides community members with free 1-on-1 support to help them achieve their literacy goals, which encompasses, reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Our services are available to both youth (ages 7-16) and adults (ages 17+). Learners are matched with a volunteer Learning Partner who will work with them on a weekly basis. Our volunteer Learning Partners are kind individuals with open minds who value patience, empathy, flexibility, and working collaboratively with our learners. They meet our learners where they’re at and aim to create a learning environment that is relevant to learners’ lives, goals, and needs. They understand that learning takes time, can be difficult, and that everyone learns differently.
If this sounds like YOU, we invite you to join us during our upcoming Learning Partner orientation and training series!
