Bring Your Little Ones to the Library

On an AC Library blue background, three organically shaped photo frames of young children are displayed, including two preschoolers with down syndrome joyously blowing bubbles, two happy black moms snuggling their smiling baby, and a father with a hearing aid looking at a phone with his child.

Early Learning, Made Simple

You can bring your babies, toddlers, and preschoolers to Alameda County Library to read, sing, play, and spend time learning together. Some families come for programs, some use online resources, and many do both.

Early learning does not need to be complicated. A story, a song, or time to play together is enough.

Ways to Learn and Play at the Library

Our early learning programs help babies, toddlers, and preschoolers build skills through stories, songs, movement, and play. You do not need to prepare ahead of time, and you do not need to attend every week to take part. You can also spend time reading together, or watching your child explore books on their own in whatever way works for them, whether that means looking at pictures, turning pages, pointing, or telling the story in their own words or language.

We also offer in-person programs for young children and the adults who care for them, including:

  • Storytimes with books, songs, and simple movement
  • Playtimes with space for open play and exploration
  • Music and Sing-Alongs focused on songs and rhythm
  • Family Yoga with gentle movement and options to participate in different ways

It is okay to arrive late, take breaks, or leave early.

Make it a library day. Explore our locations and check the library events schedule to find out what's coming up.
