Irvington Library Will Close on July 31, 2024

We will bring new library services to Irvington soon.

The Irvington Library will close this summer. The last day of library service will be July 31, 2024. We will bring new library services to Irvington soon. The Irvington and Fremont Main makerspaces will be combined to provide a more enriched makerspace experience at the Fremont Main Library. AC Library will bring innovative and modern ways to check out books in nearby locations and add an additional pick-up location in South Fremont.

The decision to close the Irvington Library was made after careful evaluation of how we can best serve our community. AC Library has determined that the building, a temporary structure owned by the City of Fremont, has reached a point where it can no longer provide a sustainable space for library service. The City of Fremont intends to evaluate future recreation programming at the site.

The Irvington Library opened in 1971 and has provided service in the same building for over 50 years. Over the years, limited service has been offered within this temporary building. Since 1997, the Irvington Library has rarely been open more than one day a week. After the COVID-19 pandemic, it reopened as a limited Makerspace with a small Tool Lending Library and a reduced book collection.

We want to thank our community members for all their support throughout the years. Although the Irvington Library is closing, we are working in partnership with the City of Fremont to continue the services you love in South Fremont. While we’re developing these services, we encourage you to use our other libraries in the Fremont area and be on the lookout for pop-up events outside the Irvington Library. Stay connected with us as we navigate this change together. Visit our website and follow us on social media for updates. For questions, please contact us at irvington@aclibrary.org.
