Get Help from a Lawyer by Phone

Beginning July 2024, Lawyer in the Library will transition to Legal Access Alameda’s Community Legal Assistance Saturday Program (CLASP).

CLASP is a free information and referral program. In a brief one-on-one phone consultation, volunteer attorneys offer general advice, guidance, and referrals to other legal, social, or governmental agencies. Details can be found in the flyer links below:

To support you with this transition, we put together a list of additional resources and organizations offering legal support.

Property Transfer Clinic is a free one-on-one phone consultation with a lawyer for Alameda County homeowners regarding questions on the following:

  • Alameda County assessment process
  • Holding title to property and its tax consequence
  • Transferring property to family members
  • Transferring property to a revocable trust
  • What happens to property after a death of a loved one
  • Common exclusions from reassessment
  • Matters pertaining to Proposition 19. For an explanation of Proposition 19, please see https://www.acassessor.org/proposition-19/, opens a new window

Appointments last 20-30 minutes for the Property Transfer Clinic. Due to limited availability, we can only make one appointment per month per person or family. View the schedule for Property Transfer Clinic.
