Library Accounts: The Basics

Get a Library Card! 

Everyone who lives in the state of California can get a free Alameda County Library Card.

Getting a Library Card is easy:

  1. Apply online or at any of our locations. 
  2. Bring ID with your name and proof of current address to any of our libraries' Circulation Desks.
    1. If you are 13 years old or younger, bring your parent or guardian so they they can show their ID and proof of address.
  3. Get your card and start enjoying all that our libraries have to offer!

What identification do I need?

Accepted forms of identification include (but are not limited to):

  • California driver's license
  • California ID
  • School-issued ID
  • Physical or digital utility bill
  • Recent postmarked mail

What can I do with a Library Card?

On top of borrowing up to 100 items from any of our ten libraries, you can also do things like:

Get an eCard!

Alameda County residents 14 or older can sign up for instant access to all of our online resources by applying for an eCard. Apply online to get started!

Please note: If you already have an Alameda County Library Card, then you already have all that an eCard has to offer and more! There is no need to apply twice.

With an eCard, you can:
